My Teaching Philosophy
#16: Vision of Teaching
Be able to communicate your vision, including how it has changed as a result of knowledge, understanding, and experience.

I am continuously encouraging students to discover their own talents through interactive exercises and student centered learning. My teaching philosophy is to be a guide who challenges my students to reach their potential through inspiration and support. I am a firm believer that what I teach my students should challenge their critical thinking, introduce them to fresh ideas, and be jam-packed with inquiry-based learning. In order to create an environment where learning can flourish, a genuine relationship with the students must be created- this foundation will be built on mutual respect and trust. Respect for self, respect for others, respect for property, and responsibility for all your actions. I will greet my students, challenges, and opportunities with an open mind and heart. When my students walk into the classroom I want them to feel safe and appreciated.
As an art major, I want to assist children in discovering their own talents. I believe that it is my job to guide, challenge, and encourage the students ensuring to instructionally scaffold so all students can succeed. I think it is important to show my students all of the different ways to be imaginative, original and visionary. By including technology integration and interdisciplinary learning I will ensure that my students are well rounded and introduced to a variety of ways to learn. My goal is to teach in a manner that will grasp the student’s attention, show them ways to use what I teach them in their everyday situations, and lead them to a more creative worldview. I want my students to realize that even though they are only one person, they can still do amazing things and make a huge, positive impact in the world. Our classroom will be a place of comfort and openness where we will all share experiences and reflect on them together.
I want to be constantly working with the parents, students, administrators, and colleagues, as this is not a one-person job. The students will play a huge role in their learning and assessment. I believe I must always be willing to learn from and participate in professional learning communities, not only with fellow teachers, but with parents as well, for a child's first teacher are her parents. Along with the many chances to learn from formative feedback the students will experience peer and self assessment. I will continue growing as a teacher by encouraging assessments and advice from others then applying them as soon, and as effectively, as possible to make me the best I can be. I believe that I should be humble and always willing to grow and adapt. I will be taking evaluations from students and others to improve my teaching. In my eyes, the role of the student is to explore, learn, and teach, to make mistakes, and to take all of the knowledge given and grow from all of this experience
